| At long last the footings for our riding arena are going in, Riding in all weathers will now be an option!! Ready for the autumn. JUNE 2008 Farm Sunday We opened our farm gates again and took part in Open Farm Sunday. We had over 200 people visit. Sheep shearing, tractor trailer rides around the cows, bbq, and our farm shop were just a few things happening. Pebworth village Fete One of our cows “ Connie” , stole centre stage at the fete, by taking part in Cow pat Bingo. - Big grid with squares marked out each square is sold for £1. At the end the cow is let into the pen and which ever square she “pats“ in wins!! Also at the fete we launched our bbq, our Hereford beef sausages and lamb burgers went down a storm. We have now been booked for several functions, please ring us for details. We now have 2 Saddleback x piggies. One is called Peppa, the other is waiting to be named by the children from Pebworth First School. The second pig was donated to the school from an auction held at the school’s midsummer ball, which was to raise money for an outside classroom. After a few glasses of wine we had agreed to look after her. Watch out for piglets next year. AUGUST 2007 On 10th June we joined 400 other farms in Open Farm Sunday, when we opened the farm to the public. This event was organised in conjunction with LEAF, Linking Environment and Farming. We had over 100 visitors, who enjoyed the sun, a walk around the farm to see the chickens who lay different coloured shelled eggs, the cattle and sheep. Children were given a quiz and scavenger hunt to do. We had refreshments in the barn of cakes and barbeque with our own burgers and sausages. A great time was had by all. Watch this space for information on next year’s event 8th June 2008. Hay making has been slow this year, but now at the end of August we are nearly finished. Foot and Mouth has put a dampener on everything as well as all the rain. We are waiting for the movement ban to be lifted so we can collect our 6 new Poll Dorset ewe lambs who will breed at anytime of the year, helping with supply for our lamb box scheme. >> Read more about Poll Dorset Sheep The Autumn herd has started calving. Dolly and Buttercup were 2 of the first to have theirs, which was very exciting as they were among the first to be born here when we took on the farm and started the herd .Dolly has had a bull calf and Buttercup has had a heifer which has been named Tulip after much discussion.
Update: Spring 2007 Our cattle are pedigree and when we register them with the Hereford Cattle Society they have to have a name. At the moment we are only registering the heifer calves. We decided to go through the alphabet when choosing their names, this has however caused several heated family discussions!! To date we are up to S, Sophie born 13th March 2007. We started with April who was born 28th April 2005, and then Buttercup followed on 24th May 2005. Our sheep have just started lambing, and have ended up with Snowflake and Skinny on the bottle much to the delight of our children. Spot however has been adopted by another ewe. And so a few late nights are to follow. The horses on the livery yard really enjoyed the snow as you can see!!
